Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Healthcare, IT and Materials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.35%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Enercare Inc (TO:ECI), which rose 52.83% or 9.99 points to trade at 28.90 at the close. Meanwhile, Corus Entertainment Inc (TO:CJRb) added 8.37% or 0.34 points to end at 4.40 and Kirkland Lake Gold Ltd (TO:KL) was up 6.40% or 1.820 points to 30.250 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Aphria Inc (TO:APH), which fell 8.25% or 0.950 points to trade at 10.560 at the close. First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TO:FM) declined 7.93% or 1.61 points to end at 18.68 and MacDonald Dettwiler and Associates Ltd (TO:MAXR) was down 6.45% or 4.11 points to 59.64.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 559 to 531 and 113 ended unchanged.
Shares in Enercare Inc (TO:ECI) rose to all time highs; gaining 52.83% or 9.99 to 28.90. Shares in Kirkland Lake Gold Ltd (TO:KL) rose to all time highs; rising 6.40% or 1.820 to 30.250.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 1.64% to 13.04.
Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.76% or 9.30 to $1214.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 1.34% or 0.92 to hit $67.84 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 0.03% or 0.02 to trade at $72.53 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.04% to 0.7690, while CAD/EUR fell 0.08% to 0.6593.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.14% at 94.46.
