Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Clean Technology, Materials and Utilities sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.30%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Kinaxis Inc (TSX:KXS), which rose 4.41% or 6.66 points to trade at 157.76 at the close. Meanwhile, CES Energy Solutions Corp (TSX:CEU) added 4.05% or 0.30 points to end at 7.70 and Brookfield Business Partners LP (TSX:BBU_u) was up 4.01% or 1.00 points to 25.91 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TSX:FM), which fell 7.23% or 1.40 points to trade at 17.97 at the close. Brookfield Renewable Energy Partners LP (TSX:BEP_u) declined 5.63% or 2.02 points to end at 33.85 and Cameco Corp (TSX:CCO) was down 5.02% or 3.56 points to 67.31.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 574 to 361 and 94 ended unchanged.
Shares in CES Energy Solutions Corp (TSX:CEU) rose to 5-year highs; gaining 4.05% or 0.30 to 7.70.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 17.77% to 8.15.
Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.04% or 1.00 to $2,335.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.27% or 0.22 to hit $81.52 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.38% or 0.32 to trade at $84.94 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.12% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.07% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.01% at 105.56.
