Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Clean Technology, Consumer Staples and Telecoms sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.27% to hit a new 3-months low.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Shopify Inc (TSX:SHOP), which rose 4.56% or 4.05 points to trade at 92.94 at the close. Meanwhile, Cargojet Inc (TSX:CJT) added 4.14% or 5.08 points to end at 127.74 and goeasy Ltd (TSX:GSY) was up 3.30% or 6.14 points to 192.03 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were BlackBerry Ltd (TSX:BB), which fell 6.92% or 0.24 points to trade at 3.23 at the close. Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP) declined 4.57% or 0.17 points to end at 3.55 and Alimentation Couche Tard Inc (TSX:ATD) was down 3.78% or 2.98 points to 75.90.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 609 to 349 and 101 ended unchanged.
Shares in BlackBerry Ltd (TSX:BB) fell to all time lows; falling 6.92% or 0.24 to 3.23. Shares in Cargojet Inc (TSX:CJT) rose to 52-week highs; up 4.14% or 5.08 to 127.74.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 5.91% to 9.56.
Gold Futures for August delivery was up 1.27% or 29.40 to $2,347.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.29% or 0.23 to hit $78.39 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.27% or 0.22 to trade at $82.53 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.07% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.37% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.06% at 105.13.
