Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Energy, Healthcare and Materials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.27%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Torex Gold Resources Inc (TO:TXG), which rose 5.22% or 0.580 points to trade at 11.690 at the close. Meanwhile, Sleep Country Canada Holdings Inc (TO:ZZZ) added 4.97% or 1.56 points to end at 32.97 and Martinrea International Inc . (TO:MRE) was up 3.87% or 0.54 points to 14.49 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Klondex Mines Ltd (TO:KDX), which fell 7.14% or 0.170 points to trade at 2.210 at the close. Paramount Resources Ltd . (TO:POU) declined 6.67% or 1.17 points to end at 16.38 and HudBay Minerals Inc (TO:HBM) was down 5.35% or 0.57 points to 10.09.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 654 to 503 and 115 ended unchanged.
Shares in Klondex Mines Ltd (TO:KDX) fell to 3-years lows; losing 7.14% or 0.170 to 2.210.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 9.10% to 17.09.
Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.74% or 9.80 to $1319.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 2.90% or 1.84 to hit $61.55 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 2.36% or 1.58 to trade at $65.28 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.59% to 0.7958, while CAD/EUR rose 0.31% to 0.6485.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.69% at 90.14.
