Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Healthcare, Consumer Staples and IT sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.24%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Advantage Oil & Gas Ltd. (TO:AAV), which rose 9.03% or 0.380 points to trade at 4.590 at the close. Meanwhile, First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TO:FM) added 5.77% or 1.03 points to end at 18.88 and Alaris Royalty Corp . (TO:AD) was up 5.31% or 0.860 points to 17.070 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Torex Gold Resources Inc (TO:TXG), which fell 9.52% or 1.040 points to trade at 9.880 at the close. Aurora Cannabis Inc (TO:ACB) declined 7.53% or 0.580 points to end at 7.120 and PrairieSky Royalty Ltd (TO:PSK) was down 6.76% or 1.74 points to 24.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 583 to 475 and 149 ended unchanged.
Shares in PrairieSky Royalty Ltd (TO:PSK) fell to 52-week lows; losing 6.76% or 1.74 to 24.00.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 7.27% to 13.72.
Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.06% or 0.70 to $1224.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.94% or 0.64 to hit $68.53 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.40% or 0.29 to trade at $73.35 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.09% to 0.7599, while CAD/EUR rose 0.14% to 0.6503.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.04% at 94.38.
