Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Energy, IT and Materials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.19%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were West Fraser Timber Co. Ltd . (TO:WFT), which rose 5.52% or 3.10 points to trade at 59.23 at the close. Meanwhile, Interfor Corp (TO:IFP) added 5.00% or 0.88 points to end at 18.49 and Bombardier Inc (TO:BBDb) was up 4.95% or 0.100 points to 2.120 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were OceanaGold Corporation (TO:OGC), which fell 3.79% or 0.170 points to trade at 4.310 at the close. Just Energy Group Inc . (TO:JE) declined 3.19% or 0.27 points to end at 8.19 and Fortuna Silver Mines Inc (TO:FVI) was down 2.73% or 0.20 points to 7.12.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 657 to 480 and 134 ended unchanged.
Shares in West Fraser Timber Co. Ltd. (TO:WFT) rose to 52-week highs; rising 5.52% or 3.10 to 59.23.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 2.75% to 10.82.
Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.28% or 3.55 to $1256.85 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 1.03% or 0.53 to hit $52.23 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.55% or 0.30 to trade at $55.19 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.17% to 0.7468, while CAD/EUR rose 0.54% to 0.7041.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.42% at 101.03.
