Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Healthcare, Energy and Materials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.17%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Interfor Corp (TO:IFP), which rose 4.12% or 0.60 points to trade at 15.18 at the close. Meanwhile, Brookfield Property Partners LP (TO:BPY_u) added 3.96% or 1.06 points to end at 27.83 and Western Forest Products Inc (TO:WEF) was up 3.91% or 0.070 points to 1.860 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Cronos Group Inc (TO:CRON), which fell 8.54% or 2.3100 points to trade at 24.7500 at the close. Hexo Corp (TO:HEXO) declined 5.84% or 0.5300 points to end at 8.5500 and NuVista Energy Ltd . (TO:NVA) was down 5.60% or 0.270 points to 4.550.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 592 to 477 and 130 ended unchanged.
Shares in Brookfield Property Partners LP (TO:BPY_u) rose to 52-week highs; rising 3.96% or 1.06 to 27.83.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.46% to 13.03.
Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.51% or 6.70 to $1314.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.92% or 0.55 to hit $59.39 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.31% or 0.21 to trade at $67.22 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.14% to 0.7460, while CAD/EUR rose 0.06% to 0.6634.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.21% at 96.425.
