Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Clean Technology, Energy and Telecoms sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.16%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Bausch Health Companies Inc (TSX:BHC), which rose 3.36% or 0.34 points to trade at 10.46 at the close. Meanwhile, goeasy Ltd (TSX:GSY) added 3.35% or 6.08 points to end at 187.83 and Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TSX:IVN) was up 3.15% or 0.58 points to 18.99 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP), which fell 3.95% or 0.13 points to trade at 3.16 at the close. Algoma Steel Group Inc (TSX:ASTL) declined 3.49% or 0.43 points to end at 11.90 and Magna International Inc (TSX:MG) was down 3.46% or 2.15 points to 59.97.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 510 to 390 and 117 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 23.65% to 10.77.
Gold Futures for August delivery was down 2.24% or 55.05 to $2,401.35 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 3.15% or 2.56 to hit $78.74 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 2.77% or 2.36 to trade at $82.75 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.18% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.04% to 0.67.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.19% at 104.08.
