Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Healthcare, Consumer Staples and Telecoms sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.13%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Alaris Royalty Corp . (TO:AD), which rose 5.58% or 1.160 points to trade at 21.960 at the close. Meanwhile, Nevsun Resources Ltd . (TO:NSU) added 4.51% or 0.120 points to end at 2.780 and Bonavista Energy Corp (TO:BNP) was up 3.64% or 0.100 points to 2.850 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Empire Company Ltd (TO:EMPa), which fell 4.67% or 0.98 points to trade at 20.01 at the close. ProMetic Life Sciences Inc. (TO:PLI) declined 4.29% or 0.070 points to end at 1.560 and Loblaw Companies Limited (TO:L) was down 3.54% or 2.40 points to 65.33.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 591 to 500 and 123 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 23.58% to 12.16.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.64% or 8.52 to $1330.72 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.21% or 0.10 to hit $47.33 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 0.23% or 0.12 to trade at $52.74 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.76% to 0.8072, while CAD/EUR rose 1.14% to 0.6804.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.22% at 92.79.
