Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Energy, Financials and Healthcare sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.13%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Cascades Inc . (TSX:CAS), which rose 13.10% or 1.17 points to trade at 10.10 at the close. Meanwhile, Canfor Corporation (TSX:CFP) added 7.64% or 0.71 points to end at 10.00 and BlackBerry Ltd (TSX:BB) was up 6.11% or 0.67 points to 11.64 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Precision Drilling Corporation (TSX:PD), which fell 7.47% or 0.18 points to trade at 2.23 at the close. Encana Corporation (TSX:ECA) declined 6.60% or 0.45 points to end at 6.37 and Kelt Exploration Ltd. (TSX:KEL) was down 6.13% or 0.250 points to 3.830.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 536 to 516 and 120 ended unchanged.
Shares in Precision Drilling Corporation (TSX:PD) fell to 5-year lows; losing 7.47% or 0.18 to 2.23. Shares in Encana Corporation (TSX:ECA) fell to 3-years lows; losing 6.60% or 0.45 to 6.37. Shares in Kelt Exploration Ltd. (TSX:KEL) fell to 3-years lows; down 6.13% or 0.250 to 3.830.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 2.03% to 12.07.
Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.46% or 6.10 to $1337.30 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 4.09% or 2.18 to hit $51.09 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.13% or 0.08 to trade at $59.80 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.05% to 0.7497, while CAD/EUR rose 0.08% to 0.6641.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.33% at 96.968.
