Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Materials, Consumer Discretionary and Utilities sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.08%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Hexo Corp (TO:HEXO), which rose 6.01% or 0.6300 points to trade at 11.1100 at the close. Meanwhile, Canopy Growth Corp (TO:WEED) added 4.11% or 2.760 points to end at 69.900 and Cineplex Inc . (TO:CGX) was up 3.13% or 0.78 points to 25.69 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were NovaGold Resources Inc (TO:NG), which fell 4.32% or 0.24 points to trade at 5.32 at the close. New Gold Inc (TO:NGD) declined 4.20% or 0.050 points to end at 1.140 and MAG Silver Corp (TO:MAG) was down 4.09% or 0.56 points to 13.13.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 554 to 512 and 121 ended unchanged.
Shares in Hexo Corp (TO:HEXO) rose to all time highs; up 6.01% or 0.6300 to 11.1100.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 2.56% to 11.21.
Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.55% or 7.15 to $1281.65 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.49% or 0.31 to hit $63.61 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.01% or 0.01 to trade at $71.52 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.05% to 0.7433, while CAD/EUR rose 0.05% to 0.6644.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.15% at 97.578.
