Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Energy, Clean Technology and Consumer Discretionary sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.01% to hit a new 6-months high.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Canfor Corporation (TO:CFP), which rose 6.26% or 1.51 points to trade at 25.65 at the close. Meanwhile, Fortuna Silver Mines Inc (TO:FVI) added 6.19% or 0.34 points to end at 5.83 and Interfor Corp (TO:IFP) was up 3.26% or 0.69 points to 21.86 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Eldorado Gold Corporation (TO:ELD), which fell 27.84% or 0.76 points to trade at 1.97 at the close. Baytex Energy Corp (TO:BTE) declined 4.36% or 0.14 points to end at 3.07 and Tahoe Resources Inc (TO:THO) was down 4.13% or 0.26 points to 6.04.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 574 to 527 and 137 ended unchanged.
Shares in Canfor Corporation (TO:CFP) rose to 52-week highs; rising 6.26% or 1.51 to 25.65. Shares in Eldorado Gold Corporation (TO:ELD) fell to 5-year lows; losing 27.84% or 0.76 to 1.97. Shares in Interfor Corp (TO:IFP) rose to 52-week highs; up 3.26% or 0.69 to 21.86.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 5.73% to 11.63.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.21% or 2.74 to $1283.24 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.14% or 0.07 to hit $51.91 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.66% or 0.38 to trade at $57.37 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.15% to 0.7903, while CAD/EUR rose 0.07% to 0.6728.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.18% at 93.74.
