Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Energy, Consumer Staples and Clean Technology sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.00% to hit a new 1-month low.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Endeavour Mining Corp (TO:EDV), which rose 4.17% or 0.910 points to trade at 22.710 at the close. Meanwhile, Lundin Mining Corporation (TO:LUN) added 3.25% or 0.280 points to end at 8.890 and Boyd Group Income Fund (TO:BYD_u) was up 2.79% or 2.90 points to 106.77 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TO:IVN), which fell 11.34% or 0.450 points to trade at 3.520 at the close. Nevsun Resources Ltd . (TO:NSU) declined 7.22% or 0.200 points to end at 2.570 and Thomson Reuters Corporation (TO:TRI) was down 7.22% or 4.14 points to 53.23.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 623 to 532 and 125 ended unchanged.
Shares in Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TO:IVN) fell to 52-week lows; falling 11.34% or 0.450 to 3.520. Shares in Nevsun Resources Ltd. (TO:NSU) fell to 5-year lows; losing 7.22% or 0.200 to 2.570. Shares in Boyd Group Income Fund (TO:BYD_u) rose to all time highs; rising 2.79% or 2.90 to 106.77. Shares in Thomson Reuters Corporation (TO:TRI) fell to 52-week lows; down 7.22% or 4.14 to 53.23.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 1.74% to 13.00.
Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.73% or 9.80 to $1345.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.53% or 0.34 to hit $64.84 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.66% or 0.45 to trade at $68.97 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.23% to 0.8129, while CAD/EUR rose 0.18% to 0.6549.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.08% at 88.95.
