Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Mining, Materials and Industrials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.21%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were FirstService Corporation (TO:FSV), which rose 6.04% or 4.35 points to trade at 76.35 at the close. Meanwhile, Trican Well Service Ltd. (TO:TCW) added 5.47% or 0.29 points to end at 5.59 and Barrick Gold Corporation (TO:ABX) was up 5.39% or 0.82 points to 16.03 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Goldcorp Inc. (TO:G), which fell 7.91% or 2.29 points to trade at 26.65 at the close. SNC-Lavalin Group Inc. (TO:SNC) declined 7.05% or 3.08 points to end at 40.63 and Pan American Silver Corp. (TO:PAA) was down 6.53% or 0.93 points to 13.32.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 810 to 633 and 188 ended unchanged.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of options, was down 1.04% to 17.14 a new 1-month low.
Gold for April delivery was up 0.58% or 7.00 to $1207.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude Oil for delivery in April fell 1.64% or 0.86 to hit $51.95 a barrel, while the April Brent Oil contract fell 0.76% or 0.46 to trade at $60.07 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.34% to 0.8002, while CAD/EUR fell 0.03% to 0.7042.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.38% at 94.49.
