Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Energy, Information Technology and Materials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 1.56%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Intertape Polymer Group Inc. (TO:ITP), which rose 4.68% or 0.800 points to trade at 17.890 at the close. Meanwhile, CGI Group Inc (TO:GIBa) added 3.18% or 1.49 points to end at 48.41 and Linamar Corporation (TO:LNR) was up 3.14% or 2.13 points to 70.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Legacy Oil + Gas Inc (TO:LEG), which fell 14.53% or 0.25 points to trade at 1.47 at the close. Canadian Energy Services&Technology (TO:CEU) declined 14.33% or 0.85 points to end at 5.08 and Bellatrix Exploration Ltd (TO:BXE) was down 14.05% or 0.42 points to 2.57.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 923 to 505 and 197 ended unchanged.
Shares in CGI Group Inc (TO:GIBa) rose to all time highs; gaining 3.18% or 1.49 to 48.41. Shares in Bellatrix Exploration Ltd (TO:BXE) fell to 3-year lows; falling 14.05% or 0.42 to 2.57.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of options, was up 17.22% to 20.22.
Gold for April delivery was down 0.56% or 7.20 to $1285.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude Oil for delivery in March fell 4.08% or 1.89 to hit $44.34 a barrel, while the March Brent Oil contract fell 2.33% or 1.16 to trade at $48.45 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.99% to 0.7986, while CAD/EUR fell 0.21% to 0.7076.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.65% at 94.87.
