Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Materials, Mining and IT sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 1.56%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Eldorado Gold Corporation (TO:ELD), which rose 8.64% or 0.47 points to trade at 5.91 at the close. Meanwhile, Enerplus Corporation (TO:ERF) added 8.53% or 0.58 points to end at 7.38 and Ensign Energy Services Inc . (TO:ESI) was up 7.15% or 0.48 points to 7.19 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Intertape Polymer Group Inc . (TO:ITP), which fell 7.59% or 1.53 points to trade at 18.64 at the close. Dream Office Real Estate Investment Trust (TO:D_u) declined 4.73% or 0.95 points to end at 19.13 and Great Canadian Gaming Corporation (TO:GC) was down 2.08% or 0.36 points to 16.91.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 548 to 261 and 100 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 6.82% to 16.81.
Gold for June delivery was up 0.13% or 1.65 to $1268.25 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 2.88% or 1.25 to hit $44.69 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 4.54% or 1.98 to trade at $45.61 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.40% to 0.7746, while CAD/EUR rose 0.47% to 0.6811.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.08% at 94.22.
