Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Mining, Materials and Energy sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 1.14%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Painted Pony P (TO:PPY), which rose 14.38% or 0.91 points to trade at 7.24 at the close. Meanwhile, Enerplus Corporation (TO:ERF) added 12.98% or 1.04 points to end at 9.05 and Yamana Gold Inc . (TO:YRI) was up 11.57% or 0.28 points to 2.70 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Northern Property Real Estate Investment Trust (TO:NPR_u), which fell 8.42% or 1.94 points to trade at 21.09 at the close. Intertain Group (TO:IT) declined 3.02% or 0.50 points to end at 16.08 and Gildan Activewear Inc. (TO:GIL) was down 2.83% or 1.22 points to 41.86.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 825 to 543 and 172 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 4.26% to 13.95.
Gold for December delivery was up 0.89% or 9.70 to $1103.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 2.27% or 0.99 to hit $44.87 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 3.24% or 1.59 to trade at $50.84 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.96% to 0.7686, while CAD/EUR rose 0.50% to 0.6978.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.44% at 97.23.
