Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Materials, Energy and Financials sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.63% to hit a new 3-months high.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were SNC-Lavalin Group Inc . (TO:SNC), which rose 6.54% or 2.29 points to trade at 37.30 at the close. Meanwhile, IAMGold Corporation (TO:IMG) added 5.80% or 0.260 points to end at 4.740 and First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TO:FM) was up 5.22% or 0.68 points to 13.71 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Canopy Growth Corp (TO:WEED), which fell 6.90% or 4.640 points to trade at 62.580 at the close. Cascades Inc . (TO:CAS) declined 4.34% or 0.45 points to end at 9.91 and New Gold Inc (TO:NGD) was down 3.18% or 0.050 points to 1.520.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 627 to 441 and 133 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 1.92% to 16.86.
Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.56% or 7.35 to $1310.45 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 2.25% or 1.17 to hit $53.16 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 2.02% or 1.21 to trade at $61.02 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.11% to 0.7532, while CAD/EUR fell 0.15% to 0.6588.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.10% at 95.518.
