Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Consumer Discretionary, Materials and Telecoms sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.57% to hit a new all time high.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Aritzia Inc (TSX:ATZ), which rose 14.82% or 6.15 points to trade at 47.66 at the close. Meanwhile, Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP) added 7.10% or 0.24 points to end at 3.62 and Filo Mining Corp (TSX:FIL) was up 6.67% or 1.75 points to 27.98 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Richelieu Hardware Ltd. (TSX:RCH), which fell 2.26% or 0.91 points to trade at 39.32 at the close. Osisko Mining Corp (TSX:OSK) declined 2.05% or 0.07 points to end at 3.35 and Bausch Health Companies Inc (TSX:BHC) was down 1.85% or 0.19 points to 10.10.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 611 to 308 and 121 ended unchanged.
Shares in Aritzia Inc (TSX:ATZ) rose to 52-week highs; rising 14.82% or 6.15 to 47.66. Shares in Filo Mining Corp (TSX:FIL) rose to all time highs; gaining 6.67% or 1.75 to 27.98.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 9.02% to 7.97.
Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.21% or 5.15 to $2,416.75 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.41% or 0.34 to hit $82.28 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.37% or 0.32 to trade at $85.08 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.03% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.39% to 0.67.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.34% at 103.78.
