Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Energy, Telecoms and Materials sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.55%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Birchcliff Energy Ltd . (TO:BIR), which rose 4.01% or 0.18 points to trade at 4.67 at the close. Meanwhile, Trican Well Service Ltd . (TO:TCW) added 4.01% or 0.120 points to end at 3.110 and Canadian Natural Resources Limited (TO:CNQ) was up 3.55% or 1.55 points to 45.20 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were WestJet Airlines Ltd (TO:WJA), which fell 3.39% or 0.64 points to trade at 18.23 at the close. Parex Resources Inc (TO:PXT) declined 3.38% or 0.840 points to end at 24.030 and Aurora Cannabis Inc (TO:ACB) was down 3.10% or 0.300 points to 9.390.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 541 to 532 and 143 ended unchanged.
Shares in WestJet Airlines Ltd (TO:WJA) fell to 52-week lows; losing 3.39% or 0.64 to 18.23.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 3.15% to 13.54.
Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.67% or 8.50 to $1260.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 3.66% or 2.49 to hit $70.57 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 2.31% or 1.72 to trade at $76.27 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.01% to 0.7521, while CAD/EUR rose 0.39% to 0.6452.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.43% at 94.35.
