Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Materials, Clean Technology and Consumer Discretionary sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.53% to hit a new all time high.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were IAMGold Corporation (TSX:IMG), which rose 16.57% or 1.17 points to trade at 8.23 at the close. Meanwhile, First Majestic Silver Corp. (TSX:AG) added 15.33% or 1.34 points to end at 10.08 and Pan American Silver Corp (TSX:PAAS) was up 10.53% or 3.21 points to 33.69 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Calibre Mining Corp (TSX:CXB), which fell 3.94% or 0.11 points to trade at 2.68 at the close. Bombardier Inc (TSX:BBDb) declined 3.86% or 4.26 points to end at 105.99 and Interfor Corp (TSX:IFP) was down 2.63% or 0.54 points to 20.02.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 625 to 328 and 87 ended unchanged.
Shares in IAMGold Corporation (TSX:IMG) rose to 5-year highs; rising 16.57% or 1.17 to 8.23. Shares in Pan American Silver Corp (TSX:PAAS) rose to 52-week highs; up 10.53% or 3.21 to 33.69.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 8.59% to 10.87.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.05% or 28.45 to $2,735.95 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 1.85% or 1.31 to hit $69.36 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 1.76% or 1.31 to trade at $73.14 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.08% to 0.72, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.43% to 0.67.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.35% at 103.29.
