Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Healthcare, Energy and IT sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.39% to hit a new all time high.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were BlackBerry Ltd (TO:BB), which rose 12.92% or 1.94 points to trade at 16.95 at the close. Meanwhile, Canopy Growth Corp (TO:WEED) added 10.91% or 3.530 points to end at 35.900 and ProMetic Life Sciences Inc. (TO:PLI) was up 6.82% or 0.090 points to 1.410 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Torex Gold Resources Inc (TO:TXG), which fell 7.06% or 0.810 points to trade at 10.660 at the close. Advantage Oil & Gas Ltd. (TO:AAV) declined 4.58% or 0.260 points to end at 5.420 and Fortuna Silver Mines Inc (TO:FVI) was down 4.35% or 0.29 points to 6.38.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 639 to 519 and 105 ended unchanged.
Shares in BlackBerry Ltd (TO:BB) rose to 3-years highs; up 12.92% or 1.94 to 16.95. Shares in Torex Gold Resources Inc (TO:TXG) fell to 52-week lows; falling 7.06% or 0.810 to 10.660. Shares in Canopy Growth Corp (TO:WEED) rose to all time highs; gaining 10.91% or 3.530 to 35.900.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 1.17% to 11.27.
Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.11% or 1.40 to $1314.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 2.37% or 1.43 to hit $61.80 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 2.01% or 1.34 to trade at $67.91 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.23% to 0.7974, while CAD/EUR rose 0.17% to 0.6638.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.38% at 91.91.
