Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Energy, Healthcare and Materials sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.32%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Bombardier Inc (TSX:BBDb), which rose 11.01% or 0.240 points to trade at 2.420 at the close. Meanwhile, Alacer Gold Corp (TSX:ASR) added 10.20% or 0.410 points to end at 4.430 and Enerplus Corporation (TSX:ERF) was up 6.58% or 0.58 points to 9.39 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were MEG Energy Corp (TSX:MEG), which fell 2.98% or 0.15 points to trade at 4.88 at the close. Whitecap Resources Inc . (TSX:WCP) declined 2.90% or 0.12 points to end at 4.02 and TransAlta Corp (TSX:TA) was down 2.64% or 0.23 points to 8.49.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 561 to 507 and 119 ended unchanged.
Shares in Alacer Gold Corp (TSX:ASR) rose to 5-year highs; up 10.20% or 0.410 to 4.430.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 4.09% to 11.50 a new 1-month low.
Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.10% or 1.35 to $1343.15 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 1.12% or 0.59 to hit $51.92 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.05% or 0.03 to trade at $60.96 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.03% to 0.7457, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.00% to 0.6645.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.01% at 97.060.
