Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the IT, Materials and Energy sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.29%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Ero Copper Corp (TSX:ERO), which rose 5.30% or 1.43 points to trade at 28.43 at the close. Meanwhile, Celestica Inc. (TSX:CLS) added 4.40% or 3.16 points to end at 75.04 and Birchcliff Energy Ltd . (TSX:BIR) was up 4.24% or 0.26 points to 6.39 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Alimentation Couche Tard Inc (TSX:ATD), which fell 2.75% or 2.20 points to trade at 77.94 at the close. BRP Inc (TSX:DOO) declined 2.27% or 1.96 points to end at 84.21 and Boralex Inc (TSX:BLX) was down 2.18% or 0.78 points to 34.99.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 553 to 395 and 98 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 6.68% to 9.08.
Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.09% or 2.20 to $2,327.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 3.16% or 2.39 to hit $77.92 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 2.75% or 2.19 to trade at $81.81 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.00% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.13% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.12% at 104.73.
