Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Energy, Healthcare and IT sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.25%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were MEG Energy Corp (TO:MEG), which rose 7.04% or 0.56 points to trade at 8.52 at the close. Meanwhile, New Gold Inc (TO:NGD) added 4.55% or 0.060 points to end at 1.380 and Precision Drilling Corporation (TO:PD) was up 4.42% or 0.22 points to 5.20 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Cascades Inc . (TO:CAS), which fell 3.58% or 0.49 points to trade at 13.21 at the close. Element Fleet Management Corp (TO:EFN) declined 3.32% or 0.23 points to end at 6.70 and Badger Daylighting Ltd . (TO:BAD) was down 3.20% or 0.96 points to 29.03.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 608 to 473 and 135 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 1.04% to 13.29.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.23% or 2.80 to $1202.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 3.10% or 2.04 to hit $67.88 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 2.88% or 2.09 to trade at $74.72 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.38% to 0.7700, while CAD/EUR rose 0.12% to 0.6634.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.16% at 94.98.
