Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Energy, Healthcare and Materials sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.25%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Birchcliff Energy Ltd . (TO:BIR), which rose 7.94% or 0.25 points to trade at 3.40 at the close. Meanwhile, Seven Generations Energy Ltd (TO:VII) added 5.82% or 0.87 points to end at 15.81 and Peyto Exploration&Development Corp (TO:PEY) was up 5.54% or 0.56 points to 10.66 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were ProMetic Life Sciences Inc. (TO:PLI), which fell 5.48% or 0.080 points to trade at 1.380 at the close. North West Company Inc (TO:NWC) declined 3.82% or 1.06 points to end at 26.67 and TransAlta Corp (TO:TA) was down 3.36% or 0.25 points to 7.18.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 609 to 497 and 126 ended unchanged.
Shares in North West Company Inc (TO:NWC) fell to 52-week lows; down 3.82% or 1.06 to 26.67.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.08% to 12.13.
Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.32% or 4.20 to $1313.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 1.68% or 1.03 to hit $62.22 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 1.47% or 0.96 to trade at $66.08 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.33% to 0.7636, while CAD/EUR fell 0.18% to 0.6216.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.08% at 90.21.
