Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Energy, Healthcare and IT sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.24%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Element Fleet Management Corp (TO:EFN), which rose 13.53% or 1.13 points to trade at 9.48 at the close. Meanwhile, TORC Oil & Gas Ltd. (TO:TOG) added 6.07% or 0.27 points to end at 4.72 and Crescent Point Energy Corp . (TO:CPG) was up 5.23% or 0.25 points to 5.03 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were IAMGold Corporation (TO:IMG), which fell 5.87% or 0.200 points to trade at 3.210 at the close. Home Capital Group Inc . (TO:HCG) declined 4.10% or 0.77 points to end at 18.01 and Fortuna Silver Mines Inc (TO:FVI) was down 3.91% or 0.16 points to 3.93.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 519 to 505 and 152 ended unchanged.
Shares in Element Fleet Management Corp (TO:EFN) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 13.53% or 1.13 to 9.48. Shares in IAMGold Corporation (TO:IMG) fell to 3-years lows; down 5.87% or 0.200 to 3.210. Shares in Fortuna Silver Mines Inc (TO:FVI) fell to 3-years lows; falling 3.91% or 0.16 to 3.93.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 4.10% to 14.47 a new 1-month high.
Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.30% or 3.80 to $1281.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.98% or 0.60 to hit $62.00 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.06% or 0.04 to trade at $70.28 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.05% to 0.7422, while CAD/EUR fell 0.01% to 0.6627.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.02% at 97.375.
