Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Materials, Healthcare and Clean Technology sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.23%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were MAG Silver Corp (TO:MAG), which rose 8.56% or 1.08 points to trade at 13.69 at the close. Meanwhile, Hexo Corp (TO:HEXO) added 8.49% or 0.8200 points to end at 10.4800 and Aecon Group Inc . (TO:ARE) was up 7.08% or 1.24 points to 18.76 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Mullen Group Ltd . (TO:MTL), which fell 13.45% or 1.64 points to trade at 10.55 at the close. Turquoise Hill Resources Ltd. (TO:TRQ) declined 6.51% or 0.140 points to end at 2.010 and Peyto Exploration&Development Corp (TO:PEY) was down 6.29% or 0.42 points to 6.26.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 569 to 492 and 133 ended unchanged.
Shares in Mullen Group Ltd. (TO:MTL) fell to 5-year lows; down 13.45% or 1.64 to 10.55. Shares in Hexo Corp (TO:HEXO) rose to all time highs; gaining 8.49% or 0.8200 to 10.4800. Shares in Peyto Exploration&Development Corp (TO:PEY) fell to 5-year lows; down 6.29% or 0.42 to 6.26.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 7.84% to 10.93.
Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.67% or 8.60 to $1288.30 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 3.63% or 2.37 to hit $62.84 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 3.67% or 2.73 to trade at $71.62 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.23% to 0.7432, while CAD/EUR rose 0.05% to 0.6663.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.13% at 97.787.
