Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Healthcare, Energy and Financials sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.15% to hit a new all time high.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Paramount Resources Ltd . (TO:POU), which rose 7.02% or 1.27 points to trade at 19.37 at the close. Meanwhile, Precision Drilling Corporation (TO:PD) added 7.00% or 0.24 points to end at 3.67 and Enerplus Corporation (TO:ERF) was up 5.02% or 0.58 points to 12.14 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Dream Office Real Estate Investment Trust (TO:D_u), which fell 4.18% or 0.94 points to trade at 21.55 at the close. BlackBerry Ltd (TO:BB) declined 3.59% or 0.56 points to end at 15.03 and First Majestic Silver Corp. (TO:FR) was down 2.99% or 0.30 points to 9.72.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 726 to 438 and 129 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 0.85% to 10.52.
Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.06% or 0.80 to $1270.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.22% or 0.13 to hit $58.22 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.25% or 0.16 to trade at $64.72 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.71% to 0.7846, while CAD/EUR rose 0.66% to 0.6606.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.11% at 92.84.
