Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Energy, Materials and Financials sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.11%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP), which rose 6.84% or 0.24 points to trade at 3.75 at the close. Meanwhile, Capstone Mining Corp (TSX:CS) added 5.66% or 0.50 points to end at 9.33 and CAE Inc. (TSX:CAE) was up 4.54% or 1.13 points to 26.03 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Lightspeed Commerce Inc (TSX:LSPD), which fell 5.47% or 1.08 points to trade at 18.67 at the close. Shopify Inc (TSX:SHOP) declined 3.49% or 3.19 points to end at 88.14 and Primo Water Corp (TSX:PRMW) was down 2.62% or 0.82 points to 30.46.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 498 to 461 and 118 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 4.09% to 10.43.
Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.67% or 15.70 to $2,344.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 1.19% or 0.95 to hit $80.67 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 1.23% or 1.04 to trade at $85.29 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.07% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.00% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.06% at 104.88.
