Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Consumer Discretionary, IT and Financials sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.11%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Magna International Inc (TO:MG), which rose 6.87% or 4.74 points to trade at 73.73 at the close. Meanwhile, NovaGold Resources Inc (TO:NG) added 6.42% or 0.33 points to end at 5.47 and Spartan Energy Corp (TO:SPE) was up 6.33% or 0.340 points to 5.710 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Element Fleet Management Corp (TO:EFN), which fell 24.41% or 1.25 points to trade at 3.87 at the close. Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TO:IVN) declined 13.07% or 0.430 points to end at 2.860 and Klondex Mines Ltd (TO:KDX) was down 11.17% or 0.220 points to 1.750.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 555 to 549 and 120 ended unchanged.
Shares in Element Fleet Management Corp (TO:EFN) fell to 5-year lows; down 24.41% or 1.25 to 3.87. Shares in Klondex Mines Ltd (TO:KDX) fell to 3-years lows; falling 11.17% or 0.220 to 1.750.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 1.14% to 12.12 a new 1-month low.
Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.74% or 9.80 to $1315.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 0.39% or 0.24 to hit $61.20 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 0.29% or 0.19 to trade at $65.08 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.79% to 0.7659, while CAD/EUR fell 0.22% to 0.6226.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.46% at 90.16.
