Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Healthcare, Clean Technology and Energy sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.09%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Aphria Inc (TO:APH), which rose 12.03% or 1.750 points to trade at 16.300 at the close. Meanwhile, Gran Tierra Energy Inc (TO:GTE) added 7.38% or 0.310 points to end at 4.510 and Canopy Growth Corp (TO:WEED) was up 6.92% or 3.870 points to 59.770 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Corus Entertainment Inc (TO:CJRb), which fell 2.78% or 0.11 points to trade at 3.84 at the close. Seven Generations Energy Ltd (TO:VII) declined 2.72% or 0.44 points to end at 15.72 and Pretium Resources Inc. (TO:PVG) was down 2.40% or 0.28 points to 11.40.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 604 to 486 and 142 ended unchanged.
Shares in Corus Entertainment Inc (TO:CJRb) fell to all time lows; losing 2.78% or 0.11 to 3.84.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 1.06% to 11.24 a new 6-months low.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.08% or 1.00 to $1213.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 1.71% or 1.17 to hit $69.70 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 1.84% or 1.40 to trade at $77.69 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.16% to 0.7746, while CAD/EUR rose 0.05% to 0.6616.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.18% at 94.46.
