Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Healthcare, Materials and IT sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.08%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Aphria Inc (TO:APH), which rose 22.85% or 2.610 points to trade at 14.030 at the close. Meanwhile, Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TO:IVN) added 13.70% or 0.300 points to end at 2.490 and Pretium Resources Inc. (TO:PVG) was up 9.04% or 0.98 points to 11.82 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Martinrea International Inc . (TO:MRE), which fell 4.05% or 0.54 points to trade at 12.78 at the close. Parkland Fuel Corporation (TO:PKI) declined 2.20% or 0.88 points to end at 39.09 and NexGen Energy Ltd. (TO:NXE) was down 2.00% or 0.050 points to 2.450.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 645 to 419 and 147 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 0.41% to 12.02.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.54% or 18.40 to $1212.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 1.09% or 0.74 to hit $68.57 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 1.24% or 0.93 to trade at $75.66 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.31% to 0.7668, while CAD/EUR fell 0.33% to 0.6602.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.51% at 95.06.
