Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Healthcare, Energy and Utilities sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.03%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Baytex Energy Corp (TO:BTE), which rose 6.85% or 0.25 points to trade at 3.90 at the close. Meanwhile, Bombardier Inc (TO:BBDb) added 6.10% or 0.180 points to end at 3.130 and Genworth MI Canada Inc . (TO:MIC) was up 6.07% or 2.46 points to 42.96 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were First Majestic Silver Corp. (TO:FR), which fell 7.00% or 0.62 points to trade at 8.24 at the close. Stella-Jones Inc. (TO:SJ) declined 5.65% or 2.81 points to end at 46.89 and Sierra Wireless Inc . (TO:SW) was down 5.12% or 1.51 points to 27.96.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 562 to 531 and 151 ended unchanged.
Shares in Bombardier Inc (TO:BBDb) rose to 52-week highs; rising 6.10% or 0.180 to 3.130. Shares in Genworth MI Canada Inc. (TO:MIC) rose to all time highs; gaining 6.07% or 2.46 to 42.96.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 16.87% to 11.48.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.54% or 6.92 to $1271.18 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 2.11% or 1.15 to hit $55.69 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 2.52% or 1.53 to trade at $62.15 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.36% to 0.7835, while CAD/EUR rose 0.76% to 0.6748.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.20% at 94.81.
