Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the IT, Healthcare and Clean Technology sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.02%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Spin Master Corp (TSX:TOY), which rose 4.63% or 2.00 points to trade at 45.20 at the close. Meanwhile, Aphria Inc (TSX:APHA) added 4.54% or 0.420 points to end at 9.670 and Cenovus Energy Inc (TSX:CVE) was up 3.89% or 0.41 points to 10.94 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Saputo Inc (TSX:SAP), which fell 6.52% or 2.80 points to trade at 40.13 at the close. Transcontinental Inc (TSX:TCLa) declined 5.24% or 0.79 points to end at 14.28 and Torex Gold Resources Inc (TSX:TXG) was down 4.89% or 0.650 points to 12.630.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 577 to 468 and 140 ended unchanged.
Shares in Transcontinental Inc (TSX:TCLa) fell to 3-years lows; losing 5.24% or 0.79 to 14.28.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.33% to 12.31.
Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.16% or 2.20 to $1344.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 2.78% or 1.46 to hit $54.05 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 2.63% or 1.62 to trade at $63.29 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.76% to 0.7540, while CAD/EUR rose 0.26% to 0.6653.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.48% at 96.532.
