Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Mining, Clean Technology and Information Technology sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.21%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Amaya Gaming Group Inc (TO:AYA), which rose 8.94% or 2.62 points to trade at 31.92 at the close. Meanwhile, SNC-Lavalin Group Inc. (TO:SNC) added 6.95% or 2.67 points to end at 41.07 and Pacific Rubiales Energy Corp. (TO:PRE) was up 5.57% or 0.16 points to 3.03 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Torex Gold Resources Inc. (TO:TXG), which fell 5.83% or 0.060 points to trade at 0.970 at the close. Gran Tierra Energy Inc. (TO:GTE) declined 5.23% or 0.180 points to end at 3.260 and ARC Resources Ltd. (TO:ARX) was down 4.89% or 1.11 points to 21.59.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 718 to 679 and 206 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of options, was down 4.94% to 16.75.
Gold for April delivery was up 0.09% or 1.00 to $1151.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude Oil for delivery in April fell 2.34% or 1.12 to hit $47.05 a barrel, while the April Brent Oil contract fell 0.71% or 0.41 to trade at $57.13 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.47% to 0.7880, while CAD/EUR fell 0.40% to 0.7407.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.53% at 99.12.
