Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Mining, Energy and Clean Technology sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.52% to hit a new 1-month high.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Lightstream Resources Ltd (TO:LTS), which rose 10.34% or 0.15 points to trade at 1.60 at the close. Meanwhile, Keyera Corp. (TO:KEY) added 10.01% or 7.48 points to end at 82.22 and Semafo Inc. (TO:SMF) was up 7.01% or 0.26 points to 3.97 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Bombardier Inc (TO:BBDb), which fell 11.51% or 0.35 points to trade at 2.69 at the close. Mullen Group Ltd. (TO:MTL) declined 8.40% or 1.89 points to end at 20.60 and Sun Life Financial Inc. (TO:SLF) was down 6.51% or 2.73 points to 39.23.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 806 to 617 and 202 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of options, was down 4.29% to 17.41.
Gold for April delivery was up 0.15% or 1.80 to $1221.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude Oil for delivery in March rose 4.88% or 2.38 to hit $51.23 a barrel, while the April Brent Oil contract rose 6.09% or 3.40 to trade at $59.33 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 1.02% to 0.8000, while CAD/EUR rose 0.39% to 0.7014.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.93% at 94.28.
