Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Mining, Energy and Financials sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 1.09% to hit a new 1-month high.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Lightstream Resources Ltd (TO:LTS), which rose 30.53% or 0.29 points to trade at 1.24 at the close. Meanwhile, Pacific Rubiales Energy Corp. (TO:PRE) added 28.61% or 1.01 points to end at 4.54 and Penn West Petroleum Ltd. (TO:PWT) was up 22.90% or 0.49 points to 2.63 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Primero Mining Corp (TO:P), which fell 9.94% or 0.500 points to trade at 4.530 at the close. AuRico Gold Inc. (TO:AUQ) declined 8.02% or 0.40 points to end at 4.59 and Semafo Inc. (TO:SMF) was down 7.01% or 0.31 points to 4.11.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 814 to 663 and 170 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of options, was up 1.11% to 19.16.
Gold for April delivery was down 1.21% or 15.40 to $1261.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude Oil for delivery in March rose 4.38% or 2.17 to hit $51.74 a barrel, while the March Brent Oil contract rose 4.09% or 2.24 to trade at $56.99 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 1.23% to 0.8054, while CAD/EUR fell 0.03% to 0.7015.
The US Dollar Index was down 1.11% at 93.77.
