Investing.com – Brazil stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Financials and Industrials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa lost 0.63%.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Gafisa SA (SA:GFSA3), which rose 3.15% or 0.080 points to trade at 2.620 at the close. Meanwhile, Natura Cosmeticos SA (SA:NATU3) added 2.94% or 0.82 points to end at 28.69 and BR Properties SA (SA:BRPR3) was up 2.30% or 0.25 points to 11.13 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Oi SA (SA:OIBR4), which fell 4.14% or 0.23 points to trade at 5.33 at the close. Vale SA (SA:VALE3) declined 3.98% or 0.71 points to end at 17.11 and Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA:ELET3) was down 3.57% or 0.22 points to 5.95.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 146 to 137 and 5 ended unchanged.
Shares in Vale SA (SA:VALE3) fell to 5-year lows; losing 3.98% or 0.71 to 17.11.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 0.03% to 29.08.
Gold for August delivery was down 0.49% or 5.60 to $1147.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.10% or 0.05 to hit $51.68 a barrel, while the September US coffee C contract fell 1.42% or 1.88 to trade at $129.72 .
USD/BRL was down 0.08% to 3.1391, while EUR/BRL fell 0.71% to 3.4344.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.50% at 97.28.
