Investing.com – Brazil stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Basic Materials, Industrials and Consumption sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa rose 0.29% to hit a new 5-year high.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5), which rose 7.89% or 0.60 points to trade at 8.20 at the close. Meanwhile, Smiles ON (SA:SMLE3) added 5.77% or 4.10 points to end at 75.15 and Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4) was up 5.03% or 0.30 points to 6.27 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were RUMO Logistica Operadora Multimodal SA (SA:RAIL3), which fell 2.42% or 0.25 points to trade at 10.10 at the close. Companhia Brasileira deDistribuicao (SA:PCAR4) declined 2.03% or 1.46 points to end at 70.61 and Embraer SA (SA:EMBR3) was down 1.28% or 0.23 points to 17.67.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 210 to 148 and 40 ended unchanged.
Shares in Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5) rose to 3-years highs; rising 7.89% or 0.60 to 8.20. Shares in Smiles ON (SA:SMLE3) rose to all time highs; gaining 5.77% or 4.10 to 75.15.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 2.38% to 24.64.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.69% or 9.18 to $1339.58 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.17% or 0.08 to hit $47.37 a barrel, while the December US coffee C contract fell 0.15% or 0.19 to trade at $128.88 .
USD/BRL was down 0.11% to 3.1370, while EUR/BRL rose 0.20% to 3.7318.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.27% at 92.57.
