Investing.com – Australia stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Metals & Mining, Resources and Materials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 fell 1.57%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Perenti Global Ltd (ASX:PRN), which rose 2.72% or 0.02 points to trade at 0.76 at the close. Meanwhile, Ramsay Health Care Ltd (ASX:RHC) added 1.66% or 1.38 points to end at 84.37 and CSL Ltd (ASX:CSL) was up 1.45% or 3.88 points to 270.86 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Megaport Ltd (ASX:MP1), which fell 9.69% or 0.97 points to trade at 9.04 at the close. Pointsbet Holdings Ltd (ASX:PBH) declined 7.42% or 0.25 points to end at 3.12 and OZ Minerals Ltd (ASX:OZL) was down 6.33% or 1.66 points to 24.55.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 934 to 450 and 441 ended unchanged.
Shares in Megaport Ltd (ASX:MP1) fell to 52-week lows; falling 9.69% or 0.97 to 9.04. Shares in Ramsay Health Care Ltd (ASX:RHC) rose to all time highs; rising 1.66% or 1.38 to 84.37.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was up 10.29% to 14.45.
Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.33% or 6.40 to $1,954.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.66% or 0.69 to hit $103.10 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.67% or 0.73 to trade at $107.60 a barrel.
AUD/USD was down 0.73% to 0.73, while AUD/JPY fell 1.03% to 93.64.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.25% at 100.86.
