Investing.com – Australia stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Gold, IT and Healthcare sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 fell 0.51%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Whitehaven Coal Ltd (ASX:WHC), which rose 5.00% or 0.160 points to trade at 3.360 at the close. Meanwhile, CSR Ltd (ASX:CSR) added 4.13% or 0.160 points to end at 4.030 and CYBG PLC (ASX:CYB) was up 3.94% or 0.080 points to 2.110 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Wisetech Global Ltd (ASX:WTC), which fell 6.93% or 2.660 points to trade at 35.730 at the close. Appen Ltd (ASX:APX) declined 6.57% or 1.710 points to end at 24.330 and Clinuvel Pharmaceuticals Ltd (ASX:CUV) was down 6.22% or 1.670 points to 25.180.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 702 to 523 and 348 ended unchanged.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was up 0.79% to 12.925.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.82% or 12.45 to $1498.65 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.36% or 0.21 to hit $58.06 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.40% or 0.25 to trade at $62.84 a barrel.
AUD/USD was up 0.00% to 0.6862, while AUD/JPY rose 0.10% to 73.64.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.04% at 98.292.
