Investing.com – Australia stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Financials, Industrials and Energy sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 fell 0.38%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Polynovo Ltd (ASX:PNV), which rose 7.88% or 0.190 points to trade at 2.600 at the close. Meanwhile, oOh!Media Ltd (ASX:OML) added 7.81% or 0.07 points to end at 1.03 and Virgin Money UK PLC (ASX:VUK) was up 6.25% or 0.09 points to 1.45 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Bingo Industries Ltd (ASX:BIN), which fell 5.53% or 0.120 points to trade at 2.050 at the close. ALS Ltd (ASX:ALQ) declined 5.33% or 0.36 points to end at 6.39 and Cooper Energy Ltd (ASX:COE) was down 5.00% or 0.020 points to 0.380.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 600 to 598 and 331 ended unchanged.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was up 13.04% to 27.938.
Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.06% or 1.00 to $1687.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 1.25% or 0.30 to hit $23.69 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.74% or 0.22 to trade at $29.50 a barrel.
AUD/USD was up 0.61% to 0.6439, while AUD/JPY rose 0.74% to 68.43.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.04% at 100.177.
