Investing.com – Australia stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the IT, Energy and Utilities sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 fell 0.26%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Sims Metal Management Ltd (ASX:SGM), which rose 4.62% or 0.60 points to trade at 13.59 at the close. Meanwhile, Perseus Mining Ltd (ASX:PRU) added 4.33% or 0.065 points to end at 1.565 and Alumina Ltd (ASX:AWC) was up 4.19% or 0.090 points to 2.240 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Ansell Ltd (ASX:ANN), which fell 4.64% or 1.57 points to trade at 32.27 at the close. Appen Ltd (ASX:APX) declined 3.87% or 0.34 points to end at 8.45 and Corporate Travel Managment Ltd (ASX:CTD) was down 3.54% or 0.83 points to 22.60.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 828 to 521 and 425 ended unchanged.
Shares in Ansell Ltd (ASX:ANN) fell to 52-week lows; down 4.64% or 1.57 to 32.27. Shares in Appen Ltd (ASX:APX) fell to 3-years lows; falling 3.87% or 0.34 to 8.45. Shares in Alumina Ltd (ASX:AWC) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 4.19% or 0.090 to 2.240.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was up 1.52% to 14.940.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.64% or 11.15 to $1766.85 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.15% or 0.12 to hit $80.64 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.17% or 0.14 to trade at $83.51 a barrel.
AUD/USD was unchanged 0.00% to 0.7351, while AUD/JPY rose 0.28% to 83.52.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.19% at 94.502.
