Investing.com – Australia stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Energy, Utilities and Resources sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Australia, the S&P/ASX 200 added 1.80%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were OZ Minerals Ltd (ASX:OZL), which rose 19.34% or 0.640 points to trade at 3.950 at the close. Meanwhile, Syrah Res F (ASX:SYR) added 12.20% or 0.300 points to end at 2.760 and Independence Group NL (ASX:IGO) was up 8.30% or 0.210 points to 2.740 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Credit Corp Group Ltd (ASX:CCP), which fell 8.13% or 0.830 points to trade at 9.380 at the close. Trade Me Group Ltd (ASX:TME) declined 3.28% or 0.110 points to end at 3.240 and Virtus Health Ltd (ASX:VRT) was down 2.58% or 0.140 points to 5.290.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Australia Stock Exchange by 563 to 382 and 155 ended unchanged.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 2.85% to 25.554.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.30% or 3.30 to $1111.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 1.35% or 0.61 to hit $45.70 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.97% or 0.47 to trade at $48.84 a barrel.
AUD/USD was up 0.60% to 0.7062, while AUD/JPY rose 0.87% to 84.86.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.22% at 96.63.
