Investing.com – Australia stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Energy, Resources and Gold sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 rose 1.64%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Collins Foods Ltd (ASX:CKF), which rose 11.63% or 0.80 points to trade at 7.68 at the close. Meanwhile, Polynovo Ltd (ASX:PNV) added 11.17% or 0.230 points to end at 2.290 and EML Payments Ltd (ASX:EML) was up 8.65% or 0.23 points to 2.89 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Perenti Global Ltd (ASX:PRN), which fell 4.35% or 0.040 points to trade at 0.880 at the close. Inghams Group Ltd (ASX:ING) declined 3.55% or 0.12 points to end at 3.26 and Unibail Rodamco Westfield (ASX:URW) was down 3.42% or 0.15 points to 4.23.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 744 to 447 and 327 ended unchanged.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 0.01% to 28.672.
Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.29% or 4.90 to $1708.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 8.39% or 1.71 to hit $22.10 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 5.63% or 1.53 to trade at $28.73 a barrel.
AUD/USD was up 0.41% to 0.6452, while AUD/JPY rose 0.40% to 68.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.07% at 99.498.
