Investing.com – Australia stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Energy, Resources and Financials sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Australia, the S&P/ASX 200 rose 1.60%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Mermaid Marine Australia Ltd (ASX:MRM), which rose 8.00% or 0.040 points to trade at 0.540 at the close. Meanwhile, APN News & Media Ltd (ASX:APN) added 7.07% or 0.035 points to end at 0.530 and Ten Network Holdings Ltd (ASX:TEN) was up 5.56% or 0.010 points to 0.190 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Ozforex Grp (ASX:OFX), which fell 4.25% or 0.110 points to trade at 2.480 at the close. Senex Energy Ltd (ASX:SXY) declined 3.85% or 0.005 points to end at 0.125 and Flight Centre Ltd (ASX:FLT) was down 2.29% or 0.830 points to 35.460.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Australia Stock Exchange by 588 to 331 and 154 ended unchanged.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 10.87% to 24.534.
Gold for December delivery was up 0.29% or 3.20 to $1105.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 1.05% or 0.47 to hit $45.06 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.68% or 0.33 to trade at $48.08 a barrel.
AUD/USD was up 0.25% to 0.7159, while AUD/JPY rose 0.15% to 86.12.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.06% at 95.70.
