Investing.com – Australia stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Energy, Resources and Materials sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 gained 1.36%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Collins Foods Ltd (ASX:CKF), which rose 7.62% or 0.71 points to trade at 10.03 at the close. Meanwhile, James Hardie Industries PLC (ASX:JHX) added 4.83% or 2.29 points to end at 49.73 and Iress Ltd (ASX:IRE) was up 4.42% or 0.34 points to 8.03 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Polynovo Ltd (ASX:PNV), which fell 5.81% or 0.14 points to trade at 2.27 at the close. Orora Ltd (ASX:ORA) declined 2.54% or 0.05 points to end at 1.92 and Tabcorp Holdings Ltd (ASX:TAH) was down 2.50% or 0.02 points to 0.68.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 625 to 588 and 467 ended unchanged.
Shares in Orora Ltd (ASX:ORA) fell to 5-year lows; falling 2.54% or 0.05 to 1.92.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was up 0.68% to 11.03.
Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.32% or 7.55 to $2,336.85 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 to hit $81.63 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.02% or 0.02 to trade at $85.13 a barrel.
AUD/USD was unchanged 0.13% to 0.67, while AUD/JPY unchanged 0.00% to 106.27.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.01% at 105.13.
