Investing.com – Australia stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Healthcare, Telecoms Services and Consumer Staples sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 rose 1.35%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Polynovo Ltd (ASX:PNV), which rose 11.85% or 0.215 points to trade at 2.030 at the close. Meanwhile, Orocobre Ltd (ASX:ORE) added 7.04% or 0.200 points to end at 3.040 and Pilbara Minerals Ltd (ASX:PLS) was up 6.78% or 0.020 points to 0.315 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Resolute Mining Ltd (ASX:RSG), which fell 3.91% or 0.050 points to trade at 1.230 at the close. Ingenia Communities Group (ASX:INA) declined 3.76% or 0.180 points to end at 4.610 and Regis Resources Ltd (ASX:RRL) was down 3.57% or 0.160 points to 4.320.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 712 to 456 and 322 ended unchanged.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 6.39% to 12.622.
Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.02% or 0.25 to $1569.05 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 0.84% or 0.53 to hit $62.74 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.89% or 0.61 to trade at $68.30 a barrel.
AUD/USD was down 0.32% to 0.6916, while AUD/JPY fell 0.27% to 74.98.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.04% at 96.393.
