Investing.com – Australia stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Metals & Mining, Resources and Materials sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 rose 0.84%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Beach Energy Ltd (AX:BPT), which rose 12.07% or 0.098 points to trade at 0.910 at the close. Meanwhile, Syrah Resources Ltd (AX:SYR) added 7.85% or 0.270 points to end at 3.710 and Western Areas Ltd (AX:WSA) was up 7.31% or 0.190 points to 2.790 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Metcash Ltd (AX:MTS), which fell 1.56% or 0.040 points to trade at 2.520 at the close. Costa Group Holdings Ltd (AX:CGC) declined 1.43% or 0.080 points to end at 5.500 and Star Entertainment Group Ltd (AX:SGR) was down 1.34% or 0.070 points to 5.170.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 655 to 439 and 325 ended unchanged.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 4.59% to 10.566 a new 6-months low.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.61% or 7.80 to $1277.00 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.27% or 0.14 to hit $51.53 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.37% or 0.21 to trade at $56.58 a barrel.
AUD/USD was down 0.22% to 0.7819, while AUD/JPY rose 0.17% to 88.27.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.37% at 93.25.
